About the unique unicycle…
What a nice definition of unicycle: the unicycle is a vehicle, which touches the ground in just one single point (exactly: the unicycle!). The general definition of unicycle describes it as a pedal vehicle propelled from muscle power, which is commonly used as a piece of sports equipment, saying: the unicycle helps to learn certain skills. On the other hand artists use it in the circus or variety to show what is possible while riding a unicycle, once you learned the special unicycle skills. There are different types of unicycles:
- Offroad unicycle ("muni"): "Muni" is an abbreviation for mountain unicycling. This kind of unicycle was specially constructed for trips out in the rough terrain. Offroad unicycles are stronger than standard unicycles in order to withstand the stresses caused by jumping, dropping, and supporting the weight of the unicycle and rider on components such as the pedals and cranks. Usually, the tire diameters on mountain unicycles are either 24 or 26 inches, allowing the rider to more easily roll over obstacles such as roots and rocks. The seat is also thicker and more comfortable on to compensate for the rough terrain. With these specials one can ride his unicycle in places where a standard unicycle would certainly go down to its knees.
- Ultimate wheel: a unicycle with no frame or seat, just a wheel and pedals.
- Impossible wheel: a unicycle with pegs or metal plates connected to the axle for the rider to stand on. There are no cranks. These unicycles are for coasting and jumping. A purist form of unicycling.
This is a small choice of all the different unicycle-models, which are obtainable on the unicycle-market. Our preferred variation is the high-unicycle, better known as “Giraffe”. We are enthusiastic high-unicycle-riders and use unicycles with different heights (from 1,60m up to 3,20m) in our Gala-Shows or Walking Acts. The art of unicycle-riding in combination with Juggling, Comedy or Fencing is a performance with a very high public appeal and lifts the unicycle-riding up to a totally new level.
