Fencing – From the gymnasium onto the stage

 

Fencing, more exactly speaking: first sports-fencing - then stage-fencing, accompanied Opus Furore from the very beginning. We got to know each other in the fencing-club and sometimes we even hated us – at least while fencing on the planche. The fairy of fencing treated us very nice and granted us with a brilliant fencing-master, who encouraged us to highest performances during our sports-fencing careers. After years of experience in sports-fencing we finally started with stage-fencing, also known as show-fencing.

After a longer period of changing our fencing habits from sports-fencing to the less exact, but more impressive stage-fencing we started creating our first fencing-choreographies for different events. At the beginning these were most of the time parties during carnival. Of course we choose our favourite characters and so called idols of all fencing-times: “The Three Musketeers”.

As time moved on we combined more often fencing with Juggling and Comedy to supreme entertainment in our performances. A certain peak of this development describes our very famous Gala-Show (including a fencing-act): “Le Bombarde”. In this act the two musketeers Aragon and Fantoche impress the public with their astonishing fencing-sequences – just all the best one will find in the school of fencing.

Because not only the musketeer-show but also the Walk Act “Musketeers XXL” are combined with fencing and both are often used for modern events, we are always a very welcome surprise for the audience. The spectators are normally not prepared for fencing in a non-historical context. This is completely different when we are showing our medieval hotch-potch “BOMBAX” on medieval events. Here we have just a slight difference, we weapons we use are no longer epees but the older and heavier both handed swords. As a matter of fact we also combine all our different skills in this show: Fencing, Juggling, Comedy, Entertainment, Magic and Fire-Acts. The unusual combination of fencing and other arts makes our Gala-Shows and Variety-Shows to a highlight on every event. For this, fencing will remain part of our artistic work for a long-lasting time.
