That’s Comedy!
Easily said: That’s Comedy! But what defines Comedy exactly? What about the meaning of the term Comedy in its entirety? Comedy as a popular meaning is any humorous discourse generally intended to amuse, especially in television, film and stand-up comedy. This must be carefully distinguished from the academic definition of comedy, namely the comedy theatre, whose Western origins are found in Ancient Greece. Much comedy contains variations on the elements of surprise, incongruity, conflict, repetitiveness, and the effect of opposite expectations, but there are many recognized genres of comedy. To give you an idea of the different comedy types, take the following: (Political-) Satire, black comedy, parody, screwball comedy and even comedy-juggling.
So right at this point our genre starts: Comedy-Juggling. Juggling connected with comedy contains a lot of different things. For instance comedy by juggling with funny props or comedy created by humorous moments while juggling. In our comedy-juggling show “Eva’s Paradise” comedy arises because we handle our mannequin in the way of slapstick-comedy. In a different comedy-act we risk the masculinity of a volunteer by putting him on two chairs and juggling knives between his legs. This brisance builds the base for many comedy-interludes. So we do it not just in our modern shows, but also in the medieval hotchpotch “BOMBAX” or in the baroque musketeer performance “Le Bombarde”. We connect comedy with a lot of very unusual skills: comedy and fencing, comedy on unicycles, comedy and juggling and of course improvised comedy whilst handling the volunteers or the audience. That’s why it’s said in our slogan:
Opus Furore – Comedy-Juggling and Entertainment par Excellence!
